On the Right, the unpainted, rusty bridge, then the primer and patches to stop the rust finally on the left, a fresh coat of paint!
One of the more interesting scenes on the Diablo Valley Lines is this scene depicting what thousands of men were employed to do on nearly every railroad on earth: paint and maintain bridges. It’s a relatively unusual, I know I’ve only seen it twice in all the magazines I’ve read and layouts I have visited. I think it’s a very interesting scene, and one that would require quite unique maintainence of way cars. The Pittsburgh & West Virginia had so many bridges, they had a crew almost constantly painting at least one bridge along its lines.
