Unexpected Modeling Masterpiece: HBO’s Intro Flyover.

April 10, 2010

In the Early 1980’s the new cable movie station HBO needed a creative introduction to be played before each feature film, so they hired a team of scale model builders to fit that need.

Learn about one of the more intricate HO dioramas to be seen by thousands if not millions of viewers throughout the 1980’s. In the era before computer animation they had some pretty impressive lighting tricks as well, make sure to watch the entire video. It looks as if very few models weren’t scratchbuilt, even the rowhouses they flyover weren’t the DPM kits I originally thought they were, everything was scratchbuilt and cast in resin!
