This very elegant and unique 4-6-0 was owned by the Milwaukee Road and used for their famous named train.

    Whatever crossed someone’s mind, that made them do that to a perfectly good steam engine?

      That was, in fact, what was being done in those days. It was, in fact, a VERY good idea, because steam railroads were trying to compete with diesels, so the engines had to be faster and faster. Streamlining was a good solution to engines already built, so that’s what they did. People loved the liveries that came along with the streamlining, and it made the engines better.
